Insulated Glass Windows
Insulated window replacement is one of our specialties, we do both residential and commercial window replacement, utilizing the existing frame/hardware to replace just the glass within. This is a cheaper alternative to replacing the entire structural component of your windows. We provide this service both on site and in house, you can either schedule a time for us to come out and measure your windows and providing pricing information or you can bring the sash in question to the shop and have it measured in person and done in house to save some money on service fees. Below we will answer some frequently asked questions about window replacement.
Q: If I bring you my window when will I have it back?
A: All insulated units need to be ordered from the manufacturer, if you bring your sash into us we will measure it and price it in the office, then you have the choice of leaving it here until we receive the unit and repair it or you can bring it home and put it back in the window until we receive the shipment.
Q: What is the process if you come on site to measure the windows?
A: If we come out to measure the windows we leave them on site and get back to you with pricing information, we order the replacements and schedule a time to come back on site to do the work when we receive the glass. The general turn around time is approximately 2-3 weeks depending on various factors.
Q: How do I tell if my window is insulated glass?
A: Insulated glass windows will have two panes sandwiched together around a metallic band, this is what creates the “insulation” aspect of the window. If your window is cracked on just one side it is insulated. If your window has some sort of “fog/smog” that doesn’t seem to wash off that is because it is most likely between the two panes.
Q: Can we replace just the broken side of the insulated unit?
A: No the window has two panes but they are glued together in the factory through a special process. Attempting to replace just one pane would not create the insulated energy certified seal.
Q: Can we clean the smog out of the insulated unit without replacing it?
A: There is no way to clean the interior of the unit without breaking the seal that makes it insulated, the only remedy would be replacement.
Q: What types of glass are offered for insulated units?
A: There is a variety of unit types which range in overall thickness, tint, and safety rating and some are even filled with specific gasses to maximize their energy efficiency. Without original documentation it may be difficult to discern the specifics of your current window that needs to be replaced, but usually after a quick inspection our specialists can identify what product you require for replacement.
